MEXICO ERVIN TURNER

(1919 - 1994)

Mexico Ervin Turner was born June 4, 1919 to the parentage of John Ben and Ethel Boyd Turner.  He was the third of eleven children born to that union.  As a young man growing up in Munford, he joined Shady Grove Baptist Church where he attended and participated regularly.

Around 1937 at the age of 18, work was scarce in the area so he went to work in Acmar, Alabama with his cousin Artway and brother Curtis at Alabama Fuel and Iron Company.  During this time, he met and married Calonia Allen.  Their union brought forth six children (William Irvin, Doris Ann, Willie Sim, Ethel Louise, Merry Elizebeth and Ransom Lee).  When work slacked off at Alabama F & I, he returned home to work at the Pipe Shop.  After a short time, he moved on to Youngstown, Ohio where he got a job at Republic Steel.  In 1953, he left there and moved to Buffalo, New York where he worked for Transco as a welder until his death.

As long as I can remember, my father loved to sing and often sang with some spiritual groups.  He always had a special relationship with God and in his later years his conversation was centered on that.  Whenever he got the chance, he spoke of God's love and having the love of God in your heart.

My father was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Aaron Missionary Baptist church where he served as an advocate for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 

On October 24, 1994, while attending a church service, God called his servant home to rest.
