my father was devastated and discouraged. Although he attempted to put on a brave face and move forward, and he died of coronary failure on May 9th, 1977, less than a year after Tboy was buried. Epilogue The courage to step out on faith and tackle the unknown was one of the gifts that my father inherited directly from Great Grandpa Ben. Just as Grandpa Ben left Georgia and Randolph County, so did Artway dare to strike out for the Promised Land. Recounting some of the doubts, insecurities, and uncertain moments my father went through really punctuated how much courage Great Grandpa Ben must have had when he left LaGrange, Georgia. I have often wondered what might have happened had my father been afforded the luxury of an adequate education. God knows the man had spunk. I thank God and him for the family trait of not burying one's talent regardless of how meager they may seem. Bennie Boyd |
