ELLA BOYD ROBINSON

(1919 - 1999)

Ella Boyd was born February 18, 1919 to Floyd and Lola Heath Boyd in Heflin, Alabama.  She attended elementary school in Anniston and graduated from Calhoun County Training School in 1941.  Ella learned at an early age that picking cotton was not for her.  That was something she did not have to do, so she stayed in school.

After high school she went to visit her Aunt Ella (her mother's sister) in Youngstown, Ohio.  That is where she met the love of her life, Clyde Robinson.  Clyde and Ella moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1943 and made a home for themselves.  She never had children but always had an open heart and home for everyone.

My first time meeting Aunt Ella was when her brother James died in 1988.  We took to each other right away.  At that time I was dating my second husband.  My problem with him was he was short and I told Aunt Ella that I like tall men, someone I could look up to.  Her remark was "No matter how tall the man was, if he was no good, then I was not looking up to anything".  Those were not her exact words, but I cleaned it up a little.  However, she was right.

Aunt Ella still lives in Detroit.  She can not get around like she use to because of illness and in February she turned 80 years old.

Ella is the only surviving child of Floyd and Lola.

ELLA BOYD ROBINSON

(1919 - 1999)

Ella Rose was born February 18, 1919 to Floyd and Lola Heath Boyd.  She is the ninth of eleven children and the sixth of eight girls born to their union.  She was born in Heflin, Alabama and lived there until the death of her father.

The family moved to Oxford, Alabama to a farm but were unaware that it was a sharecrop farm.  They relocated to Anniston, Alabama (Jones Hill) a few years after the death of their mother, Lola.  The older brothers and sisters had to drop out of school to take care of the younger children (Ella, Lillian and Nellie).

Ella continued her education and graduated from Calhoun County Training School.  While continuing her education, Ella gave her life to the Lord.  She united with the church formerly known as Rising Star African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church.

After graduation, Ella relocated to Youngstown, Ohio to live with her aunt, Ella Heath (she was the sister of her mother).  After four or five years, Ella moved to Detroit, Michigan to live with her oldest sister Irene Boyd Price.  She found work, met and married Clyde Robinson.

Ella is the last surviving child of Floyd and Lola.  She and Clyde continue to live in Detroit and serve the Lord, although she doesn't attend church services because of her health.

I pray that God continue to bless and keep her in his care.
