ANNIE BOYD MCCRAYER

(1910 - 1964)

Annie Mae was born October 10, 1910 to Floyd and Lola Heath Boyd in Heflin, Alabama. She lived there until the death of her father.

The family then moved to Oxford, Alabama to a farm but were unaware that it was a sharecrop farm. They relocated to Anniston, Alabama (Jones Hill) a few years later after the death of their mother, Lola. Annie Mae was one of the four oldest children that had to drop out of school to help support the younger children and to keep them in school to get a high school education.

Later in the years, she met and married Henry McCrayer. To their union one child was born, Annie Elizabeth. In 1943, her husband moved to Buffalo, New York. In those days, people were relocating to find work. Annie Mae remained in Alabama with her daughter. She found work with the Dr. Patton, who had delivered her daughter, for a long period of time.

She became ill and after her recovery she became a beautician. In conjunction with doing hair she did domestic work.

Annie Mae gave her life to the Lord at an early age and was united with the church formerly known as Rising Star African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church. She and her daughter attended the church services regularly and she was also one of the church's missionaries.

In those days, the missionaries held their meeting in the homes of the members once a month. They would open with the business part of the meeting and follow it by the discussion of the Bible. After closing the meeting, the host person would serve refreshments.

She also joined the social club that met once a month on Mondays. She and her cousin, Easter Boyd, would attend the meetings.

Annie Mae was a devoted and loving mother.
